Rhododendron Legacy at Laurelwood Arboretum

Joseph Di Giacomo, Master Gardener and Volunteer, will share information on the legacy of John and Dorothy Knippenberg and the development of rhododendron gardens at Laurelwood Arboretum (with Patty Slezak, WPL Reference Librarian).

In 1955, Dorothy began to hybridize rhododendrons, many are registered and several are awarded. Check out the collection which today boasts more than 400 rhododendrons, including varieties with larger leaves, with more floral substance or later flowering periods. Find out about the propagation that takes place in the greenhouse by the rhododendron study team developed six years ago, and how they protect and preserve the collection.

During the month of August, informative notice boards on this topic will be available in the gallery of the Wayne Public Library.
