BELMAR, NJ – The Belmar Public Library’s Poetry Jam Cabaret returns on Wednesday, May 12, with all members of the community invited to present their own work or offer their interpretations of classic and contemporary pieces.
The free online event is part of an ongoing poetry reading series, open to a wide range of people – from high school and college students to adults of all ages.
“The Cabaret Poetry Jam is intended to create and build a community of poets and people who appreciate the poetic use of the English language, and to grow that community with an ongoing series of virtual – and ultimately – in-person events.” said library assistant Luis Pulido.

“It also aims to show everyone that poetry can be fun and entertaining, but also thought-provoking,” added Pulido, who himself participated in the showcases that were broadcast live.
In fact, he and two returning poets – Arthur Veilleux and Vijay Joshi – will share original and classic poetry, including patriotism poems, just in time for Memorial Day, at the May 12 event, which is open to residents of Belmar and neighboring communities as well.
Each participant will have up to five minutes to discuss and perform their poem during the open-mic session, which begins at 6 p.m. on Zoom.
To become a poet performer, prior registration is required and can be done by clicking here to complete an online form.
