HE Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem al-Ghanem affirmed that the ministry has taken a moderate approach from a perspective that serves overall cultural security and maintains spiritual stability, as these efforts have effectively resulted in strengthening vaccination, prevention and protection of young people in Qatari society against ideas of extremism.
This came in an exclusive interview with HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs with Qatar News Agency (QNA), in which he said the ministry is also adopting a clear referral strategy which focuses on supporting various areas of development, the main ones being the areas of social protection, population, labor, sustainable development, renewing the religious discourse in conditions that respond to contemporary issues, supporting family cohesion , modernize Islamic culture programs and strengthen relations with the Islamic world and Muslim minorities around the world.
He added that this strategy also contributes to the field of social protection with disciplined investment of resources from endowment and zakat disbursement channels through their legitimate channels, and working diligently to activate cooperation and strategic partnership with community institutions.
He said the ministry’s message concerns the Islamic religious issue in society and reinforces the role of the message of Islam in consolidating human values, lofty moral principles and ideals, and confirms its lasting impact in promoting the life of the whole community, spreading Islamic culture in a moderate approach of a civilized project based on the Holy Quran and Sunnah, as well as strengthening the role and message of the mosque in society.
Regarding the most important orientations and plans of the ministry to activate the role of mosques, he underlined the concern of the ministry to activate the message of mosques and supervise them, because they mainly contribute to the advancement and cohesion of society, based on the status of mosques in the Islamic religion, and to employ imams, preachers and muezzins who possess Islamic knowledge. Rehabilitation programs and courses for them have continued as they have the honor of serving the houses of Almighty God and leading the faithful, with correct understanding and moderate approach within the framework of the authentic values ​​of the Islam, and to contribute to reviving the role of the mosque in society as well as their efforts through social media platforms and Islamic websites according to a balanced religious discourse.
Regarding the ministry’s plans to attract Qatari imams and preachers to mosques across the country, the minister explained that the ministry is making determined efforts to attract and rehabilitate Qatari imams and preachers, and allocate financial incentives to them. and others to encourage and motivate young Qataris to engage in the qualification programs of imams and preachers, in order to realize the strategy of the ministry which he pursued in the continuous care and development of the sons of the country, to fulfill fully their duty to inform people of their religion and to spread the moderation and tolerance and high morals of the true Islamic religion, as well as to carry out their advocacy duties in the manner appropriate and required by Sharia, and to help revive the role of the mosque in society, where the number of Qatari imams has reached 185 and the number of preachers has reached 158.
Talking about the most important features of the development witnessed by the endowment in Qatar over the past few years and the current plans and mechanisms of its development, he said that the features of the development witnessed by the endowment in the country by through the Endowments Branch are numerous. , and the most important of these is the development of the disbursement of endowment income, launching the slogan “The endowment represents a community partnership”, and expanding the sector of partnerships with governmental and private entities, in addition to develop and invest endowments, based on the Management’s slogan “endowment is investment and development”, as many new endowments have been opened and the endowment process has been governed, through the publication of the new endowments law, followed by the publication of a decision to meet transparency requirements, which contributed to the governance of endowments and the development of its administrative performance.
On the urban character in Qatar, which has recently distinguished the country’s mosques with designs that reflect its excellence, he pointed out that the ministry has launched many modern models for the construction of mosques in Qatar, noting that a committee of engineers and experts from several ministries has participated in the design of modern mosques in Qatar, so that these designs conform to the best international standards and specifications, and conform to an Islamic outlook consistent with Qatari heritage.
On the outstanding global project in its writing and design “Mus’haf Qatar”, which was inaugurated by Qatar in 2008, the minister said that the journey of this project, which began in 1991, represents the vision of an emir and the march of a state, explaining that this project is a historic milestone for Qatar, as it carries great significance for the state, given that it is a renewed and modernized transcript of the Holy Quran in the name of Qatar.
The first such international competition for Arabic calligraphy was held, which brought together around 120 of the most skilled calligraphers in the Islamic world.
He added that four editions of Mus’haf Qatar have been produced so far, adding that the fifth edition is in progress, while about 2.5 million copies of Mus’haf Qatar have been distributed since its printing. inside and outside Qatar. This distribution is carried out externally in more than 100 countries on different continents of the world, through the Qatar embassies in these countries, and in coordination with the ministries of endowments and religious affairs, Islamic centers, universities and international Islamic personalities, he added.
Regarding the role of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs towards many Islamic centers established by Qatar abroad, he explained that the Ministry – represented by the Department of Islamic Affairs – has implemented many advocacy projects, educational and cultural activities in a number of Arab, Islamic and European countries. countries, as well as in the Americas, which included the establishment of mosques, schools, service complexes, homes for the Holy Quran, Islamic and cultural centers. These projects help to strengthen the processes of integration of Muslims in these societies and to present the bright face of Islam to coexistence and civilizational integration.

About the most important preparations of the Ministry for the Haj season this year and the characteristics of the development in the management and coordination of Haj and Umrah affairs, he said that there is continuous communication and coordination between the ministry – represented by the Department of Hajj and Umrah Affairs – and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj.
