A massive new outdoor cultural destination is coming to London’s Docklands

The E16 Docklands may not be a must-see cultural hotspot right now, but a new outdoor venue hopes to change that. Later this year, the team behind some of London’s best venues and festivals, including Printworks, The Drumsheds and Field Day, will bring us Dockyards, a new space to soak up music and culture.

Located on the waterfront at Silvertown Quays, the 400,000 square foot open-air venue will provide a new home for a dynamic range of cultural events, year-round. Inspired by the flow of imported goods and the role the Royal Docks have played in London’s history, the Dockyards will be a place where “all forms of culture converge at the capital’s doorstep”.

So far, the new space has two massive events booked to wrap up the summer, with more to be announced soon. There’s a two-day show on Defected London from famed label Defected Records on September 3-4, while top electronic music band Above & Beyond hold their group therapy weekend will bring a jaw-dropping lineup of the best dance music in the hall on September 10-11. As more and more events take place, the venue aims to work with the best artists in the world and promote local talent.

The Shipyards team is also committed to making a positive impact in the region where they make their new home. They will work with the Royal Docks to ensure they deliver good social, economic and cultural impact in Newham, whether that means ensuring the inclusion and representation of the borough’s diverse population in its programming or commit to providing jobs and business opportunities to local people.

“We are truly delighted to open Dockyards, creating a new cultural center of gravity for London in the heart of the Royal Docks,” said Bradley Thomspon, managing director of the venue’s founders group, Broadwick Live.

“The Shipyards will shape the region through cultural and business innovation by delivering a year-round program of events and activities in partnership with the best in the world. As a Broadwick Live venue, visitors and performers are assured of a world-class experience, while we also deliver meaningful impact for the region and local communities.
